NY Curbed has announced that construction at the Whitney Museum's new location along New York's High Line park has recently made leaps and bounds towards completion. The designer is the Italian architect, Renzo Piano. The 63,000 sq. ft. new structure rests alonside the Hudson River and will consist of indoor galleries and outdoor viewing areas which face the High Line.
The Upper East Side location of the Whitney Museum was badly in need of renovation and a larger space. Building began downtown in 2011 and it's been exciting for people to track the progress of this impressive new space through the museum's constantly updated website.
"The design for the new museum emerges equally from a close study of the Whitney's needs and from a response to this remarkable site. In the meantime, the Jeff Koons retrospective runs at the uptown Whitney until October 19 2014 and will be the last exhibit shown there before it closes.
