The year is just starting but at the Stockholm Furniture and Light Fair, interior design trends for the coming year are already starting to take form. For 2014 and 2015, expect to see more “lounge style” interiors, natural Nordic elements and lots of greens and blues in different hues.

Luxurious Comfort
Think pure classic and luxurious contemporary interiors in a more personalized way. The pure classics trend shows a lot of curvier contours and an eclectic contours of old and new styles. When it comes to color, discreet matte pastels mixed with varying shades of gray are getting into play. Furniture and lighting will continue to look more luxurious with the warm glow of bronze and gold and we’ll definitely see more of them in furniture fittings and hardware. All of these subtle color schemes and elegant materials would look perfectly with white marble, this year’s material du jour.

Modern Romantic
The romantic appeal of Secret Gardens are making their way into our interiors this year and into the next one. This trend is a delightful combination of vibrant floral colors perfectly combined with shades of spring green and neutral colors. The resulting look hints of rustic retro and modern romantic interiors which can soften even the hardest urban homes.
Looking for inspiration? Look no further and take your cue from second-hand vintage furniture pieces which can be teamed well with contemporary furniture. Of course, when it comes to creating a "Secret Garden"bb inside your home, think of natural elements integrated within your existing design elements. Fallen branches can be lightly painted to show its textures and hung on your walls. You can also add more plants and flowers in your tables or on your shelves to achieve the look. And if you want to take it a notch higher, then why not add a trellis home divider for that really romantic take on this spring trend?

Nordic Landscape
Natural elements from the Nordic lands will dominate interiors this year- from furniture to permanent home fixtures. This trend’s inspiration would be the Nordic landscape which can be translated to an exciting mix of metals, stone, wood, glass and leather. Surfaces will start showing pre-patinated finishes, whether in wood features, wood furniture and even on textiles. Furniture will show plaited and basket weave details. By the end of this year and in 2015, we’ll see more washed, distressed linen looks in beddings and in sofa covers.
As for the color scheme, this rustic natural theme will play within shades of browns and leafy greens, which will work well with granite stone.

Underwater Blues and Greens
As the season shifts to summer, interiors will also be updated to dreamier waterscapes. Shades of greens, blues, and turquoise will be teamed well with white. This summer’s strongest color schemes will be mapped within blues and whites- be it in furniture, textile patterns and even in china ware. The watery feel of living close to the ocean will also be reflected on prints which will show hints of watercolor painting techniques. All of these will look great with the driftwood furniture in shades of grays.
