The Top Design Trends Coming In 2014

Rooms should be freshened up every once in a while and this list will make sure you're redesign is level with this coming year. Here are the ones to implement this year that Design & Trend liked best.

1. Corduroy Upholstery

"It's the casual alternative to velvet and the preppy version of chenille," L.A. designer Betsy Burnham told The Wall Street Journal. She has an olive green corduroy sofa in the library of her home.

2. Vintage Eye-Poppers

"Thanks to social media, the lifespan of a trend has been cut in half. We're all a little overexposed. I think vintage and one-of-a-kind pieces will be highly sought after. It's the curiosities that make a house a home and keep your guests asking: "Where did you get that?" Lindsay Souza of thepursuitofstyle.com, told House Beautiful.

3. The Blues

Both Mark D. Sikes, and Paloma Contreras told House Beautiful that blues, from navy to baby are going to be everywhere in 2014.

4. Window Sheers

Heavier drapes give privacy but take away light. Sheer is the best of both worlds.

"Everyone wants greater transparency and more light," New York designer Celerie Kemble told The Wall Street Journal.

5. Macramé and Fiber-art Wall Hangings

"It's sculpture for your wall that adds texture and replaces wallpaper or fine art you can't afford," Burnham told The Wall Street Journal. "And we haven't seen it since the 1970s. I think it's time."

Bonus: Trends that will not continue into 2014.
