Historic Architecture Preservation: Colombia's Iconic Structures & How It's Being Maintained

Historic architecture preservation is evident in Colombia's existing structures but the challenge lies in ensuring that these pieces of history remain unchanged. Colombia has a wealth of influence coming from the Spanish colonization.

The beauty of the country's Spanish architecture can still be seen today. One of the more evident cases of historic preservation can be seen in the town of Abejorral.

This well-preserved town within the Antioquia region in Colombia serves as a time-machine to a bygone era. Abejorral is still littered with houses influenced by Spanish architecture. Historic architecture preservation is something that the town is still practicing to this day.

According to ColombiaReports, one would need permission from the town council in order to change the architecture of their homes. This ensures that the town's historic preservation remains intact.

An Abejorral tourism officer explained that it is vital for the town to practice historical architecture preservation. This is done to preserve the town's beauty since its history and culture is crucial to Colombia's identity.

The country's historic preservation isn't limited to Abejorral, it extends to its other town's as well. In the northwestern region of Antioquia, lies the town of San Pedro de Uraba.

According to ArchDaily, the government is hoping to build an educational park in the small town. This educational park is just one of the planned 80 parks scattered around Antioquia. In addition, these parks will also observe historic architecture preservation.

The planned educational parks will hope to educate the locals of the town's violence-stricken communities. The structure will incorporate areas where citizens can socialize, mingle and learn. While these parks are to be built from the ground up, historic preservation will still be maintained in its architecture.

Even with its new structures, the country hopes to ensure the survival of its history and culture. The country's identity lives on through its historic architecture preservation in the future these planned structures.
