Acoustic and Auditoriums: 30 Sections to Guide Your Design

The three most important fragments of an ideal auditorium are- acoustics, attainment, and lighting. Without a proper design, these three can affect the quality of auditorium. Proper research is needed on these factors.

One important thing to remember is- the interior material of auditorium should be neither too much reflector nor absorber. So proper wooden structure is needed because only wood can strike and absorb sound properly.

According to ethos3,  Acoustic science involves- production, control, transmission of sound, reception, and effect of sound. To give a soothing experience a good auditorium should accomplish effective projection of sound. Mainly long reverberation time and curved reflective ceiling are needed for sound clarity. Other things that matters are- anti-focused walls, choice of interior material, wooden structure etc.

Lighting and accessibility are also needed. Harsh patterns, excessive brightness, and noticeable shadows- are must be avoided here. Only uniform light pattern, 3:1 ratio of luminance of ceiling and walls, color rendering index within 70-80 are permeable.

According to arch daily, there are a number of ways to challenge these 0criteria. So proper analysis of different auditorium can show us how architects solve the problems.

The 860 containing Amphion Auditorium, designed by Mecanoo, is the perfect example of using a soothing red tone in all over the entrance, theater, green room etc. Usually, it is the venue of the red carpet. Staircase, façade pattern windows, large and small theater halls, 300 seats containing black box- make it the history of red-stone.

Specifically influenced by Lowa River, park road, city park- Pelli architects made the Hancher auditorium, for music and dance in the city. It is the gateway to arts campus.

There is the fan-shaped flexible Princess Alexandra Auditorium, contains 800 seats, classroom, multi-use dance-drama group activity space, built by Associates Architect LLP.

Arkitema architect made Cultural Center Auditorium using Icelandic granite- Studlaberg consist of high narrow windows positioned to maintain daylight, a concert hall of 600 spectators, multi-purpose hall and sculpture courtyard.

Winspear Opera House made by Foster+partners gives the essence of Opera House, Sydney. The main attraction of it is the solar canopy and beneath it the pedestrian plaza.

There are more to analyze- El plaza Condesa special for its transformation from modern to post-modern. Engineering school and auditorium university campus, Everyman Theatre, Sines center for arts, Hamer Hall architecture, Han Show theater, The Cloud Auditorium- these all are worldwide famous for their exact planning.

Others examples are- Guangzhou Opera House, Lycee Francois Truffaut auditorium, Auditorium A, Stomen, Auditorium theater of Llinars Del Valles, Bahrain national theater and National theater.

Speakers and presenters always prefer a venue which is full and also safe. The ideal venue should provide- perfect amount of space, soothing audience experience, nice and accurate lighting and mostly acoustic pleasance- which combines engineering, interior architecture and design altogether to give healthy experience to an audience and the presenters become thankful also.
