Just two years ago, designer Adam Lippes relaunched his label, buying back his name and intellectual property rights from Kellwood, a brand-marketing firm that owns Vince and Rebecca Taylor, to name a few.
What began as Adam + Eve became Adam Lippes in 2013, a luxury womenswear line with a strong, loyal following, which has established a more intimate approach to design rather than the corporate world.
Being an enthusiastic interior decorator and having recently purchasing an 1830s townhouse on Washington Square Park, the designer chose to host his Spring 2015 collection preview at his dream apartment.
Lippes described the inspiration behind his latest apparel assortment stating, "I recently became obsessed with vintage Moroccan rugs. But the question was: How do you do rugs for Spring?"
According to Style.com the clothing is inspired by North African carpets from the turn of the 20th century, marking another New York Fashion Week participant who expressed ancient rug inspiration in their spring lines.
Lippes' influences of antique carpets were reinterpreted and modernized with embroidery and silk tassel details, luxe fabrications such as hand felt silk linen and flexible leather, constructed into tuxedo jackets, topcoats, relaxed pants and caftans. Particularly original, with the use of a Sharpie marker, Lippes introduced his personally drawn tapestry print atop his silk caftan.
It isn't the first time Lippes expressed his literal inspirations for his fashion line being from an interior accent, having recently told Architectural Digest, "A fabric for my resort collection was directly inspired by the quartz table lamp in my dining room."
He described his collectible approach to decorating his home, purchasing unique furniture and art pieces.
"I'm always on the lookout for things I've never seen before."
Lippes' father was a collector and his mother was an interior decorator, having him exposed since early childhood to a creative lifestyle.
Lippes told Style.com, "I've thought about designing interiors myself. In fact, I've been asked a couple of times."
It would be exciting to see what Lippes would develop in the interior design market, but for now, his focus is on his reinvented womenswear line.
