Halle Berry is preparing to part ways with her longtime Los Angeles residence, a Mediterranean-style villa that has been her home for more than two decades. The Oscar-winning actor has listed the historic property for $11.995 million, putting a substantial estate with classic architectural details, resort-inspired outdoor spaces, and multiple living structures on the luxury real estate market.

Located in the Sunset Strip area of Los Angeles, the property combines the character of a 1920s residence with amenities suited to contemporary living. According to Architectural Digest's report on the listing, Berry purchased the home in 2005 for just under $6 million. The current asking price is nearly double that original purchase price, although the eventual sale price will depend on the outcome of negotiations with prospective buyers.

Originally built in 1926, the approximately 5,900-square-foot estate sits on a lot measuring more than 25,000 square feet. Its five bedrooms and six bathrooms are distributed across a three-bedroom main residence, a guesthouse, and a separate studio, providing flexibility for entertaining, accommodating visitors, or creating dedicated work and recreation spaces.

A Mediterranean Villa With Historic Character

The property's architectural appeal begins with its Mediterranean-inspired design, which emphasizes natural materials, generous windows, and a connection between indoor and outdoor living.

Inside, stone-tiled floors and exposed wooden beams establish a warm, textured aesthetic. Large windows frame views of the surrounding greenery, bringing natural light into the interiors while reinforcing the sense of privacy created by the property's mature landscaping.

The entrance opens into a sunken living room, a traditional architectural feature that creates a distinct gathering area without requiring a complete separation from adjoining spaces. Changes in floor level can help establish visual boundaries in an open interior, giving a room a more intimate atmosphere while preserving sightlines.

A formal dining room sits nearby, with a picture window and access to the kitchen. Together, these spaces provide a layout suited to both everyday use and larger gatherings.

The design demonstrates how older homes can retain their architectural identity while accommodating contemporary expectations for comfort, functionality, and entertaining.

A Chef's Kitchen Designed for Entertaining

The kitchen is one of the home's key functional spaces, featuring two islands that provide additional preparation surfaces and room for multiple people to work simultaneously.

Double-island kitchens can be particularly useful in larger residences, where cooking, serving, and casual socializing often happen at the same time. Depending on the layout, separate islands can help distinguish food preparation from dining or entertaining activities.

The kitchen also benefits from its relationship with the home's other living areas. Rather than treating cooking as an isolated activity, the layout supports a more connected approach to hosting.

Elsewhere, a second living room features a vaulted ceiling and a fireplace, creating a different atmosphere from the sunken living room near the entrance. The higher ceiling introduces a sense of vertical space, while the fireplace provides a natural focal point.

A wet bar adds another entertaining feature, with direct access to the backyard swimming pool. This arrangement allows the interior to function as an extension of the outdoor gathering areas, particularly during warm-weather events.

Glass Walls Connect the Interior to the Garden

One of the villa's most notable design features is a slide-away glass wall that opens the interior to the outdoors. When fully opened, the expansive glazing reduces the physical separation between the living areas and the surrounding landscape.

Indoor-outdoor connections have become a defining feature of many contemporary luxury homes, but the approach also complements the property's Mediterranean character. Large openings, terraces, and garden-facing rooms encourage residents to make greater use of outdoor spaces throughout the year.

The grounds offer several distinct areas for recreation and relaxation, including a swimming pool, a spacious pool deck, and shaded seating beneath a pergola. A fireplace-equipped outdoor seating area provides another place to gather, while a fire pit creates a separate focal point for evenings outside.

A pizza oven adds a practical feature for outdoor dining, making the garden suitable for informal meals as well as larger gatherings.

The property's landscaping is also an important part of its design. Dense foliage surrounds the outdoor amenities, helping create a series of secluded spaces rather than leaving the entire yard exposed. This approach can make a large garden feel more intimate by using plants, pathways, and separate activity zones to establish different experiences across the grounds.

Wellness Amenities and a Dedicated Glam Room

Beyond its primary living spaces, the estate includes amenities that reflect the growing emphasis on wellness and personalized facilities in luxury residential design.

The property has a meditation garden and additional wellness-related spaces, alongside a swimming pool and spa. A private gym and massage room provide further opportunities for exercise and relaxation without leaving the residence.

Another distinctive feature is a dedicated glam room with a dressing area and a private entrance. The arrangement allows stylists and trainers to access the space without passing through the main living areas, offering a practical example of how a home can accommodate professional services while maintaining privacy.

The separate guesthouse and studio provide additional flexibility. Depending on a future owner's needs, these structures could serve as guest accommodations, creative workspaces, or other dedicated-use areas, subject to the property's existing configuration and applicable regulations.

Together, the multiple structures and specialized amenities make the estate more than a conventional single-family residence. Its layout supports several activities while allowing different areas of the property to operate independently.

What the Listing Means for Los Angeles Luxury Real Estate

Berry's property enters a market where buyers of high-end homes often evaluate more than interior square footage alone. Architectural character, privacy, landscaping, outdoor amenities, and flexible living arrangements can all influence a property's appeal.

A historic home can offer qualities that newer construction may not easily reproduce, including established gardens, mature trees, and traditional architectural details. At the same time, buyers may consider the maintenance requirements associated with older buildings, along with the condition of their systems and any renovation needs.

The villa's asking price of $11.995 million reflects its size, multiple structures, location, and range of amenities. However, a listing price does not establish the property's final market value, and the eventual sale could differ from the advertised amount.

Berry's latest listing also follows her previous attempt to sell a Malibu residence, which she put on the market for $18 million in 2023 before withdrawing it a few months later. That separate property should not be confused with the Sunset Strip villa now being offered for sale.

For prospective buyers, the Los Angeles estate presents a combination of historic architecture and contemporary luxury features, from its exposed beams and vaulted ceilings to its glass-connected living spaces and landscaped grounds.

Whether the property attracts a buyer at its current asking price remains to be seen. For now, the listing places Berry's longtime villa in the spotlight, offering a closer look at a residence that brings together Mediterranean-inspired design, private outdoor living, and the flexibility of a multi-structure estate.
