Angelina Jolie has sold one of Los Angeles' most historically significant celebrity homes for $24.75 million, bringing an end to her ownership of the former Cecil B. DeMille estate in the city's Los Feliz neighborhood.

The Oscar-winning actor purchased the property for $24.5 million in 2017, shortly after filing for divorce from Brad Pitt. Nearly a decade later, the estate has changed hands for only slightly more than Jolie originally paid, despite its historic pedigree and the substantial scale of the property.

Jolie initially brought the compound to market in May 2026 for approximately $29.85 million. The eventual sale price represents a significant reduction from the original asking price, although the property remains one of the notable Los Angeles luxury real estate transactions of the year.

A Historic Los Angeles Estate With Hollywood Roots

The property is located inside Laughlin Park, a gated community known for its concentration of historic and high-value homes. Its connection to Cecil B. DeMille gives it an unusual place in Hollywood real estate history.

DeMille, one of the defining filmmakers of early Hollywood, owned the estate before Jolie. The compound reflects the expansive residential architecture of Los Angeles' historic entertainment industry, with multiple structures and private outdoor spaces rather than a single large residence.

The main house measures approximately 11,000 square feet and includes six bedrooms. The wider compound also includes a guest house, pool house, tea house, and a secluded treehouse, according to Architectural Digest.

The property's scale was one reason it stood out among Los Angeles celebrity residences. Rather than functioning as a conventional mansion, the estate was designed as a private residential compound, giving its occupants multiple spaces for living, entertaining and recreation.

Jolie Had Planned to Leave Los Angeles

The sale also follows comments Jolie made about her plans for life after her youngest children came of age.

In a 2024 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jolie said she intended to leave Los Angeles once her twins, Knox and Vivienne, turned 18. The twins reached that milestone in 2026, making the timing of the property sale notable.

Jolie has not publicly established a single permanent replacement home base. Reports indicate that she expects to spend more time traveling internationally and visiting her adult children, while continuing her work outside the United States. Cambodia has also remained important to her personally and professionally.

The move represents a broader change from the period when the Los Feliz estate served as Jolie's primary Los Angeles residence.

A Celebrity Home With an Unusually Strong Provenance

Historic provenance can add a different dimension to luxury real estate, particularly in Los Angeles, where properties associated with Hollywood figures can carry significance beyond their square footage.

In this case, the connection to DeMille is particularly notable. The filmmaker was a foundational figure in Hollywood and one of the industry's best-known early directors and producers. That history makes the estate more than simply another celebrity-owned mansion.

Jolie's ownership added another layer to the property's modern celebrity history. Her 2017 purchase placed the residence among high-profile homes associated with major Hollywood figures, while the 2026 sale effectively closes another chapter.

The transaction also illustrates how luxury properties can behave differently from the broader residential market. A property can have extensive land, architectural character and a famous ownership history while still spending months on the market and ultimately selling below its initial asking price.

What Comes Next for the Estate

The buyer's identity has not been publicly disclosed. The sale leaves the new owner with a property that combines significant land, a substantial main residence and a collection of secondary structures, along with a documented Hollywood history.

For Jolie, meanwhile, the transaction marks a significant change in her Los Angeles real estate portfolio. The sale comes as her six children are adults and her professional and personal commitments increasingly extend beyond California.

The former DeMille estate will now enter another chapter of its long history. Whether the next owner preserves its existing character or undertakes a major renovation, the property's connection to one of Hollywood's most recognizable early figures will remain part of its identity.
