Design Icon Ben Blumenfeld Reveals Design Trends For 2017

Wondering what major design trends will emerge in 2017? Well, Ben Blumenfeld, co-Director at Designer Fund and former Design Lead at Facebook, has revealed the design trends that will make a mark this year.

Blumenfield, revealing the 2017 design trends on Quora, said the list includes Social Impact, Proliferation of New Design Tools, Designer Founders, Design Leadership, and Freelance Design. 

According to him, Designer Fund invested and partnered with catering design tools Wake, Framer, Abstract, and Figma. The proliferation of New Design Tools is expected to happen because more designers have the skill to build their own tools and start their own companies.

He also pointed out that there are more designers will consider the social impact of the products and services. There will be more projects that focus on fixing politics, healthcare, and civic planning, among others. 

Design Leadership is expected to emerge because there will be more designers who want to develop this area. Freelance Design is still in the game, according to Forbes, as many consumers consider hiring freelancers because of flexibility.

Despite the growth of businesses who embrace the concept of mobile first, there are still businesses benefiting from desktop product. Overall, the desktop products are still rocking the market this year.

Lastly, design and data are still emerging this year. Today, there are many designers understand the importance of the impact of their designs. Apart from that, there are user-friendly tools that allow designers to see the impact of their products without relying on data scientists.

The tools that are useful for designers are  Optimizely, Heap Analytics, Mode Analytics, and Segment. These aforementioned tools help them understand and communicate the impact of their design decisions.
