‘Drunk Feminist Films’: Get Intoxicated and Empowered!

In the dawn of the internet, many shows have come up with different ways to entertain us and one such show is called “Drunk Feminist Films.” This show features a group of women criticizing films while enjoying a glass or two of shots.

“Drunk Feminist Films” first joined the YouTube community in 2013 and just recently got the media’s attention. According to their profile, they are “a collective of feminists who would rather laugh than cry their way through representations of gender in Hollywood films.” Since then, they have also opened accounts on Twitter and Tumblr. Now, they have their own shop where they sell different merchandises that scream feminism with a hint of humor.

The women in “Drunk Feminist Films” make fun of major films in Hollywood and in one of their segments; they featured the movie “Twilight.” For those who are not quite familiar with the YA vampire fiction, “Twilight” has been on the spotlight due to its reviews. Most of the reviews criticized the film and the series negatively due to its portrayal of the characters and its storyline as a whole. There has been countless memes mocking this franchise even if it did earn a lot and also gained fans of the series.

One of the founders of “Drunk Feminist Films”, Gillian Goerz, drafted a drinking game based on “Twilight.” Amy Wood, Steph Guthrie, and Shaunna Bruton – the other co-founders joined in on the game. It was all thanks to this game that birthed their group and their YouTube channel. They made up a set of rules that trigger a shot from all of them. For instance, when a protagonist girl is portrayed as helpless or when the dialogue sounds stupid.

Ever since that pivotal moment, “Drunk Feminist Films” began and have a lot of positive responses. They decided that they should be a diverse group that embraces women of all types and no sooner did they start from a group of four, the show now circulates THIRTEEN women. Until now, the group is still continuing with their cries of feminism and their drunken words of wit and wisdom.
