Susan North Sits as Scalamandre’s Newest Creative Director
Luxury soft furnishings company Scalamandre has appointed a new creative director, Susan North. North, who has more than two decades of experience in high-end creative direction and product design, will significantly add to the company’s prestige.
North said, “Scalamandre has an amazing heritage and reputation in the interior design world.” She added, “It also has a wonderful archive of design that is an absolute treasure trove from which to draw. I am thrilled and honored to have the opportunity to create beautiful and exciting new product for such a prestigious brand and add to its legacy.”
Prior to Scalamandre, North was the Managing Director for New Business Initiatives at Thibaut and the Senior Vice President and Creative Director at Schumacher. For Thibaut, North oversaw the Fine Furniture brand and developed Thibaut’s Arcadia wallcovering line. For Schumacher, she was in charge of the overall product development, visual merchandising and marketing.
North’s new position at Scalamandre will pose her with the responsibility of developing the newest introductions of the brand including fabric, wallcovering, trimming and furnishing products. She will also be handing the Boris Kroll by Scalamandre collection which is the company’s most recently launched line. North will also manage the visual merchandising, brand image and marketing initiatives of the company. She will be reporting directly to Louis Renzo, Scalamandre’s CEO.
Scalamandre is making major changes after the resignation of former president Steven Stolman. Aside from hiring North the company is also changing addresses. It has announced its plan of moving and opening a new, stand-alone showroom later this year in the D&D Building in New York from their Starkk Showroom. Scalamandre will also be opening a new fabric showroom at the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles.
