iPhone 8 Might Face Delay Due To 3D Sensing Issues

Sources have revealed that three iPhones to be launched this Fall are likely to be delayed a month or two. The range-topping 5.8-inch iPhone 8 may be pushed to an October or November release due to 3D sensing tech issues.

According to GSM Arena, the 3D sensing is an augmented reality tech that Apple uses to gather images from the front and back cameras. It is also a dedicated infrared sensor that will be used to facilitate 3D selfies and in games that will be developed soon in iPhone 8.

Having said that, the 3D sensing will only be present on the iPhone 8, and not on the iPhone 7s and 7s Plus. That means the other two will be able to follow the usual launch cycle.

The iPhone 8 will feature an OLED display, while the iPhone 7s's will continue with LCDs. Drexel Hamilton analyst, Brian White, told investors on Friday the reason his firm believes Apple's 5.8-inch iPhone 8 would high likely turn out the most expensive of the new iPhones, and as to why it won't arrive in September as usual.

"First off, our smartphone contact believes the 3-D sensing technology and OLED displays will only be offered with the 5.8-inch iPhone 8," White told CNBC. "However, our contact strongly believes the 5.8-inch iPhone will be delayed by several weeks due to challenges around the 3-D sensing technology but still in time for the December holidays."

White added that customers will still be able to pre-order two of Apple's new iPhone 8 models, which includes a 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch model in September as usual. The two models do not accommodate the fancy new trimmings that the 5.8-inch model will have, and that calls a time of patience for some iPhone enthusiasts who might as well want to wait for the latest and greatest device.
