Asia Week New York is in effect until March 22nd and has given the city a taste of Asian art and culture.
Throughout the week, guests have been treated to an exhibit participated in by 47 Asian art specialists. The show aims to weave Asian art into the culture of New York City. This year’s show also showcased the works of new exhibitors such as the Chicago-based Japanese contemporary art Gallery Gallery FW, London-based Chinese art specialist Michael Goedhuis, New-York based Japanese ceramic gallery Onishi Gallery and New-York based Himalayan art and Chinese textile specialist Moke Mokotoff, among others.
Carol Conover, chairman of Asia Week NY said, “The continued growth of Asia Week New York confirms that New York City is firmly established as the not-to-be-missed destination for Asian art collectors and enthusiasts.” According to Conover, aside from new exhibitors, there was also a 25% increase in the number of galleries that participated in the fair.
This year, the show’s goal is to attract a new generation of young collectors by exposing them to Asian art and culture.
“For new collectors, there is still room to buy both ancient and contemporary art from Japan, India, Southeast Asia, Korea and yes, even China,” Conover shared. “The Asia Week New York dealers are always happy to see new collectors coming through the door and for many of the foreign dealers, the young collector is one of the reasons they participate.”The participating galleries can be found across New York’s midtown and Upper East Side. Categories cover much of Asian art and culture including textiles, sculpture, painting, ceramics, photographs and prints of contemporary art from China, India, Himalayan, and Southeast Asia.Visitors were given a map to guide them through all the participating galleries for this year’s Asia Week New York. Participants include galleries, auction houses, cultural institutions, online exhibitors and museums.
