Exclusive: 5 Tips To Work More Pink Into Your Home Decor From High End Designer Guillaume Gentet
For some people, pink is a tough color. It is so bold so unapologetic and so well, feminine. It can be a tough one to incorporate in your home. But high end residential designer Guillaume Gentet is known for using his signature color, pink, in an array of different design details. Gentet loves to use pink to create a sense of joy in his clients' spaces. As Gentet says, "There are a lot of ways to use this color -without scaring your husband." Here are his top five tips for infusing any room with pink.
1. Throws and Pillows: People are sometimes nervous to use pink, especially in public spaces like the living room or kitchen. If you want to incorporate the color in a subtle way, look for silk throws or pillows in a lighter pink with a shimmer, so that the pink will appear to change color next to other items in the space.
2. Picture Frames: Another way to incorporate the color is to get picture frames for the walls, and paint them a lighter shade of pink. I recommend either Powder Blush (#1338) or Ballet Slippers (#1331) by Benjamin Moore. These subtle shades are a great way to add color that will add a bright, but not loud, touch of color to your space.
3. Accessories: You can also bring in a collection of coffee table accessories in the same shade to add a pop of pink to a room. If you find a collection of small boxes or coasters to use, you can always take them to a paint store and have them lacquered in the same shade of pink.
4) Paint the Walls: If you want to go bold, paint the whole room pink! You can use a more neutral shade like Peach Cooler (#022) from Benjamin Moore that will read a little more beige once it's on the walls. Once you add furniture, the pink will become more of a backdrop for your space.
5) Peek-a-Boo Pink Accents: For small spaces like a bathroom, you can use a softer Rosemist (#1366) by Benjamin Moore. If you have white cabinets, paint the insides in a very hot pink for a peek-a-boo pop of color. I recommend a shade like Island Sunset (#1346). You can also add towels in a similar shade to echo the hue. For another fun pop of color, find a piece of white coral, spray paint it pink, and add it to a shelf or window sill.
