Mindcraft Brings Danish Crafts to Milan Design Week

As a part of the Ventura Lambrate exhibit for this year’s Milan Design Week, Danish designer Nina Tolstrup curates another exciting lineup for the Mindcraft exhibition. This 2014, Tolstrup is bringing with her the works of 12 Danish designers, among others, who all worked within the theme “Materialising Beliefs.”

Tolstrup wants to showcase the strong Danish designs ans has curated works of designers who came from different disciplines to highlight their skills in handicraft.

One of these is the wooden chair created by benandsebastian which has very intricate details of latticework made of walnut.

Pipaluk Lake created the Suspension I piece using melted panes of glass over twisted wires forming a giant kiln. The glass piece is hung in a metal frame, making it look like the piece was formed by the wire drips.

Anne Fabricius Mollers designed a 10 meter-long fabric print using found-objects from the street. The result is a textile with symmetrical print patterns with colors matching the hues of the objects that she used in the textile.

Popular Danish woodworker Jakob Jorgensen switched materials and delved into blacksmithing to forge a set of woodworking tools made from steel.

Line Depping developed the Elements clothes rail which was made from steam-bent wood as modules. The clothes rail can be used in its original three-rail form or it can be added with extra modules for additional hanging space.

Martin Lobner Espersen experimented with the classic Grecian vases to create a vase with sprout of tumor growths in them. Along with it are tub-like containers which are made by Espersen as well.

All of these pieces will be exhibited at the Ventura Lambrate design district located at Via Ventura 6, coinciding with Saloni dei Mobile and a host of other events during the Milan Design Week which will run from April 8 to April 13.

Mindcraft is an award-winning and internationally-recognized exhibition organized by different curators who aim to highlight Danish craft and design during the Milan Design Week. Mindcraft is supported by the Danish Arts Foundation.
