'Vikings' Season 5 News & Update: Next Season Confirmed; Michael Hirst Hints More Stories Beyond Ragnar Lothbrok's Death

"Vikings" Season 4 finale probably triggered some to speculate that the series will be coming to and end soon, however, that theory has been dismissed as show creator Michael Hirst hinted that there is more to come. The assurance of more seasons to come is definitely a breath of relief for many as they look forward to what comes next after such a major death.

The writers of the popular History drama "Vikings" made a bold move when they killed off Ragnar Lothbrok and caused quite a scare that the series will be ending soon. However, the incident will actually cause more stories to unfold rather than end everything altogether.

Reports that "Vikings" Season 5 will not be the end of the series, despite the writers killing off core characters one after the other. Since the character of Travis Fimmel was introduced in the drama, many fans have grown to like the brave warrior much so that some have hoped for an alternate ending opposing to how history has played out for the real Ragnar Lothbrok. "Vikings" has nearly revolved around building characters such as Ragnar, however, his fate has been sealed hundreds of years ago and History's writers will not be changing a thing, so it seems.

Apparently, the vast story told by History's "Vikings" will go on after Ragnar Lothbrok's death as it was never meant to end the series as reported by Variety. Future seasons of the show will follow the adventures of the next generation of Lothbroks as well as Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) and Rollo (Clive Standen).

Moreover, avid fans of History's "Vikings" are in for a treat as Michael Hirst revealed in an interview with Variety that he is already writing the last two episodes of the next season. He even hinted that the things to come will be utterly mind blowing. "Vikings" Season 5 will unleash its spotlight on Ivan the Boneless (Alex Hogh Andersen) and his brothers as they are submerged in boiling water. The Vikings are under the impression that they already own Ecbert's territory, however, Linus Roache isn't one to legitimately sign over the land as he is not king.

According to Hirst himself, everything will come into play in the coming seasons. Avid fans should make sure to catch the return of "Vikings" Season 5 later this year.
