Where Architects Live: A Special Original Installation for Salone del Mobile, Milan

Have you ever wondered what the houses of the world's most notable architects look like? “Where Architects Live” is a special original installation created by the leading contemporary architects of today presenting their individual concepts of their very own domestic spaces.

The exhibit during Salone del Mobile will provide visitors with an exclusive glimpse of the personal spaces designed by eight leading architects: Shigeru Ban, Mario Bellini, David Chipperfield, Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksas, Zaha Hadid, Marcio Kongan, Daniel Libeskind and Bijoy Jain

Not only will “Where Architects Live” give visitors a preview of how architects design their own domains, it will also create a dialogue which will broaden the vision of domestic architecture.
The architects worked on the concept that of all design disciplines, domestic architecture undergoes the most evolution as it is predisposed to experimentation. The idea behind it is that domestic architecture has the perfect combination of architecture and design.

Viewing the spaces designed by these respected architects will provide a context of the home as a theme in design. It can trigger their reflection on their experiences, trends and modes of contemporary domestic living.

The event is curated by Francesca Molteni. Molteni curated “Design Dance” and “A Celestial Bathroom” in 2012 and 2010 respectively. Molteni has been able to film the exterior and interior spaces of the leading names in the architectural world. She has also interviewed each of them on their visions, decisions and triggers of the architects’ design processes and their perception of their professional careers.
Along with scenographer Davide Pizzigoni, who has worked with representational spaces and leading international opera theaters, Molteni recreated private spaces of Shigeru Ban, Mario Bellini, David Chipperfield, Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksas, Zaha Hadid, Marcio Kogan, Daniel Libeskind and Bijoy Jain through reconstructions, videos, images, sounds and commentary. The resulting installation is an interactive exhibition space that will surely become one of the main cultural and architectural focus during the Salone del Mobile.
