Giving Warm Tones to Modern Homes

Usually, modern homes have a sort of cold and monochromatic feel to it that looks clean but appears dull so here are some ways to add warm tones for that balanced look. If you want to make your modern home a little warmer, you can follow the advices given below.

Design and architecture site, Houzz, talks about how modern homes need a dash of warm tones. In their article, they said that having a modern house can be good but it also needs to have updates every now and then. The writer discusses that the word "modern" in design usually gives off clean lines and minimalistic appearances. In addition to that, the author also gives the difference between modern and contemporary in another article of the same site. He stated that modern architecture started from the early to mid-20th century whereas contemporary architecture and design is what appears in the present.

Modern homes and its clean and organized looks, however, appear impersonal and that is why adding a little bit of warm tones especially personal items can add life. Wood can help warm up the place because of its natural and authentic appearance. To soften and warm up cold surfaces and lines, yo can add texture like a rug or fluffy accessories. If you want to have it more personalized, add family mementos and objects. You can go bold with a bright colored piece, a huge artwork, and a whimsical decoration.

Shirley Meisels, a designer of MHouse Inc., shared her experiences when she had to change the appearance of one of the modern homes by adding warm tones. In the video feature by House & Home, she said that adding draperies automatically change the appearance of the house. Another suggestion she said is to have artwork in the room, and eclectic pillows that do not just have to be comfortable but also artistically adding warmth. She even said that something as simple as book covers could add warmth to the rooms. Same as the article above, Meisels said that even subtle tones like marble could also be considered as an additional warmth.

Giving warm tones to your otherwise cold and clinical modern homes does not have to be a grand gesture. Sometimes even the subtle hints can make the place cozier and warm.
