LG: LED lighting is so 2012, Proposed OLED Lamp

LG has a new proposal that will undeniably rock the lighting industry. LG Electronic introduces a state of lighting approach with the OLED table lamp.

During the recent Light+Building 201 trade show held in Frankfurt, the Korean electronic company unveiled its OLED Table lamp. This new offering utilizes organic light-emitting diode (OLED) technology formed into sheet rather than the conventional light-emitting diodes (LED).

Like the LG Smart Lamp (which uses LED bulb), the OLED Table lamp can also be controlled through bluetooth in both iOS and Android applications. The app can be used to adjust lighting modes, night-dimming or to turn the lights on with an alarm.

The use of wireless lighting could help make home-control systems easily integrated within the devices. In addition, this can help save money, power and can be used to control home theater and security systems. Eventually, this technology can be coordinated with power companies to have a smoother electricity grid operation.

OLED has lots of potential in awakening the humdrum lighting market as this can pave way to new novelty lighting designs. There is also a great possibility that homes will veery away from traditional lighting bulbs and move on to innovative lighting fixtures such as illuminated wallpaper sheets.

A lot of consumers are also excited with the new developments with wireless lighting technology. Currently, there are already a few introduced in the market such as those from Philips and Belkins, which costs extra but are already bundled within their starter kits.

As of this year, the prices for wireless lighting are as follows:
$60 multicolor Philips Hue bulb which was introduced in 2012 and has been upgraded with $40 Lux white-only bulb and $60 Tap remote control system. Other brands are also selling almost similar products such as the $30 Insteon LED bulb; $70 Lumen LED Color Smart bulb and the $40 Belkin WeMo Smart LED bulb.
