Apple has been awarded a new patent for its new smart watch. It will be called "iTime".
The company received its patent approval on Tuesday for a "mobile electronic device". It also came with diagrams and a moniker for the wearable tech.
The watch is expected to be launched in October and will be CEO Tim Cook's first new product launch since the late Steve Jobs. Everything else has been an update of previous models.
The patent was filed on July 20, 2011.
Here's what the patent reads:
"One information exchange facilitated by the personal wireless environment is a notification (or alert) that is initiated by one electronic device to a nearby electronic wristband. In one implementation, the electronic wristband can receive a notification request from another nearby electronic device, such as the mobile phone. Typically, a user would be carrying or wearing the electronic wristband and the mobile phone. The notification request can be received (via wire or wirelessly) at he electronic wristband and can cause the electronic wristband to notify the user. In general, the notification request can be considered a push notification from another electronic device to the electronic wristband. As one example, the notification request can cause the electronic wristband to activate haptic device, an audio device/and or a display device for the electronic wristband to signal the user of the notification."
The description explains how the notifications work and how a user can select controls to allow him/her to view more information regarding the notification. They can even accept or decline incoming calls.
Some of the other features that the device includes are media storage and playback, GPS, an accelerometer, and a wireless communication transceiver built into the device.
Apple's incoming smart watch will not be the only one on the market. Samsung and LG are also introducing new devices using Google's Android Wear technology.
