Apple Watch, iPhone 6, U2: What Happened At Apple's Event Today

Apple's big day was quite a big day for U2, as well.

The band performed, and then announced and released a new album for free to iTunes Store customers in 119 countries - what Apple is calling "the largest album release in history."

"Songs of Innocence" will also be available on iTunes Radio and Beats Music.

As for the tech giant, the event was equally historic due to the release of a brand new Apple product: the Apple Watch.

The smartwatch, which will release in early 2015 and starts at $349, will work with iPhone models 5 and newer, meaning over 200 million current users can pair the device with their iPhone. The watch will also feature mobile payment integration through Apple Pay.

"Because you wear it, we invented new intimate ways to connect and communicate directly from your wrist and it works seamlessly with iPhone," Apple CEO Tim Cook said. "And it's also a comprehensive health and fitness device."

The Apple Watch will come in two sizes and three collections, allowing users to customize the device to their unique needs for function and style.

"We know that wearing something all day every day becomes as much a part of personal expression as functionality," Apple Senior Vice President of Design Jony Ive said in an Apple Watch video shown during the presentation.

The "best iPhones ever," officially named the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, also debuted Tuesday with 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch displays, respectively. They are the biggest Apple smartphones ever released.

Pricing for the iPhone 6 starts at $199 for a 16 GB model, $299 for 64 GB and $399 for the 128 GB configuration, with a two-year contract. The iPhone 6 Plus starts at $299 (16 GB), $399 (64 GB) and $499 (128 GB). Both smartphones come in the same colors as the iPhone 5S: gold, silver and space gray.

The devices will be available to ship starting Sept. 19, ABC News reports.

Both new iPhones pack better battery life, an Apple A8 64-bit chip that allows for 25 percent faster CPU and 50 percent faster GPU performances, new camera features including Optical Image Stabilization and Apple Pay, the mobile payment system that will allow users to pay for products with their iPhone.

The iPad Air 2, rumored to be debuting at the event, was not unveiled.
