Will Microsoft Unveil New Surface Mini at May 20 Event?

Microsoft is getting ready for a May 20 press event in New York where they will talk about its Surface line. There is also the possibility that in this press event, they will launch the long-rumored Surface mini tablet.

Microsoft is keeping the invitations minimal for the event where they will allow media outlets to catch a glimpse of a smaller Surface tablet that will compete with Apple's iPad Mini, Samsung Galaxy Tab, and Google's Nexus 7.

Rumored at seven to eight inches, the Surface has been in the works for more than a year. The product that they will unveil on May 20 may be powered by a qualcomm processor and Windows RT.

"It's not clear if the Intel Surface model is simply a refresh of the existing Surface Pro 2, but it's possible Microsoft could be preparing to launch a Surface mini with Windows RT and a Surface mini Pro model with a full version of Windows 8," The Verge reports. "Microsoft may even be considering an entirely new Intel-based Surface model."

The smaller Surface is expected to come with a stylus pen so it could work in conjunction with Microsoft's OneNote software. It will also include a multi-position kickstand.

There were also news about Microsoft releasing an ARM-powered tablet but there is possibility of Microsoft releasing an Intel powered Surface tablet as well.

CNET hinted that it is likely that the media who were invited to at event will be receiving a tablet, so we could look forward to early reviews of the product.

At the end of the day, it remains anyone's guess about what Microsoft has in store for May 20. A Surface mini is a sure choice however as it is the only part of the tablet market that the company has not released anything for yet.
