Nexus 7 Tablet Out Of Stock: 8 Release Date Nearing?

The Nexus 7 has reportedly sold out in the Google Play Store in both the U.S. and UK, suggesting the Nexus 8 could very well be on its way.

UPDATE: Google has reportedly informed TechRadar UK that the shortage shouldn't be read into:

"Sorry for the inconvenience. Nexus 7 will be back in stock in the Play store in the next few days, and is still available from a host of online and high street retailers," a Google spokesperson told the website.

HTC, meanwhile, recently announced it will be holding an event on Aug. 19 in New York City, but with no further details provided, we can only wonder just what the tech giant is going to announce.

As Androidandme reports, there are a few options floating around, including the highly-rumored Nexus 8 tablet that HTC has reportedly collaborated with Google to create. While Nexus devices typically get unveiled at Google events, it could be possible that HTC will break the cycle at its event.

HTC is also said to be working on two more tablets in addition to the rumored 8.9-inch Nexus 8," according to @evleaks.

Phandroid reports that the Taiwanese company is developing tablets dubbed "T7" and "T12," but that no other details are currently known. The publication notes that the "T" reference links these tablets to the Nexus 8's "T1" internal codename, and could offer clues on the sizes of the alleged devices:

"We imagine HTC won't want to return to the tablet scene with too many options of similar ilk so it wouldn't be odd to suggest one of these could be a palm-ready 7-8 inch option while the other one stretches the it out to the traditional 10-inch mark. I'd ponder whether the numbers correlated to size, but we somehow doubt the "T1″would come with a 1-inch display."

The Nexus 8 is believed to feature high-end hardware in an aluminum unibody, CNET reports.

@evleaks revealed that the device will pack a 64-bit Nvidia Tegra K1 processor, 5GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, and either a 5MP or 8MP rear-facing camera. Meanwhile, the Nexus 8 is also now being tipped for an 8.9-inch display with 2,560x1,600 pixel resolution, instead of the 2,048x1,440 pixel resolution previously reported. As the CNET notes, previous rumors also suggested the tablet would feature 2GB of RAM, and not five. Previous Nexus tablets have featured plastic designs, as well.

The rumored tablet has been rumored a release date in late summer or early fall, Android Origin reports.
