iPhone 6 vs. 5S: Wi-Fi Speed Much Faster On New iPhones, Comparison Test Shows

The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus offer users Wi-Fi speeds more than twice as fast as their predecessor, the iPhone 5S, a new comparison test from iClarified suggests.

802.11ac has already become available for users of Android and Windows Phone devices including the Samsung Galaxy S5, HTC One and Nokia Lumia Icon, but this is the first time it has been offered in an iPhone, Gizmodo reports.

While the boost is certainly a welcomed new feature, there is a catch - you have to be using a router that supports 802.11ac to take advantage of it.

The iPhone 6 costs between $199 and $399, according to Apple's website. That definitely isn't the price you're going to pay, however, ZDNet's Ed Botts reports.

Depending on the carrier you choose, those advertised numbers only reflect what you'll pay at the start of your service agreement, not the total ownership cost. Think of it as a down payment.

While purchasing an iPhone without a contract seems like the most expensive way to become an iPhone owner, Botts calculates that you may actually pay more for the device on a two-year contract with major carriers AT&T, Sprint, Verizon and T-Mobile.

A 16GB iPhone, for example, will cost you $650 without a contract, but anywhere from $560 to $800 with AT&T, $680 to $920 with Sprint, $470 to $830 with Verizon and $660 with T-Mobile. Those figures reach as high as four figures for the 64GB and 128GB options with two-year contracts - certainly much more than the $299 and $399 prices Apple advertises alongside the product.

Both new iPhoness pack better battery life, an Apple A8 64-bit chip that allows for 25 percent faster CPU and 50 percent faster GPU performances, new camera features and Apple Pay, the mobile payment system that will allow users to pay for products with their iPhone.
