French Mansion Covered In Mirrors: Le Chateau de Rentilly Transformed
Château de Rentilly became the newest venue to open for the frac île-de-France (the region's contemporary art fund) - a converted 1950s country house covered in reflective chrome - a top-to-bottom mirrored exterior. The mansion has undergone rehabilitation by a select team of visionaries, including artist Xavier Veilhan, architects of Bona-Lemercier studio and set designer Alexis Bertrand, to develop an uncommon gallery showcase.
Design Boom expresses the project's appeal by stating, "The building's reflective facades not only add intrigue and distinction to a relatively plain structure, but also enhance the surrounding environment; preserving the layout's strong geometry while highlighting the rolling green landscape."
The Estate will not only serve as a contemporary development for the eye to experience, but will serve as a new, unique venue for presentations to promote public works of art in the region. The interior has been designed to adjust and alter itself for specific uses, and features retractable window panels to allow for the ideal admittance of natural light.
It is quite the surprising installation, a grand contemporary structure juxtaposed with a calm outdoor environment resting in a Parisian countryside. It is very much the direction of tomorrow.
