More than 30 technology firms have added their names canceled the list of companies against the immigration ban imposed by President Donald Trump. The total list of companies is now at 127 and it includes big firms like Tesla, HP, Evernote, and Adobe. According to the legal document filed, the companies state the ban “inflicts significant harm” to their businesses.
The case was filed last Sunday in Washington and the initial list of companies include giant tech firms like Facebook, Microsoft, and Apple as signatories. Amazon is not part of the list but the company served as a witness in the lawsuit that was first filed by the Attorney General of the state of Washington.
The case was filed against the immigration ban implemented by the new president of the United States. The executive order orders a 120 day complete stop of the US refugee program, an indefinite ban for Syrian refugees and cancelled permission for all countries that are Muslim-majority.
According to BBC, the tech companies understand the government’s needed adjustment to raise the security of the country. However, the tech firms believe the implemented ban by the current president does not fit America’s goal to make the country safer. In reality, it actually undermines the interest of the country.
According to Huffington Post, the letter filed by the technology firms defends immigrants as they are too amongst the people leading the country like politicians, businessmen, philanthropists and even artists. The immigration ban isn’t going to solve the nation’s problem and will even do undoubted damage to businesses. Furthermore, it will make it harder for the tech firms to keep or find new employees and make the economy of the country suffer.
As of today, the appeals court is getting to ready to hear all the arguments brought by both sides before a decision will be made.
