President Donald Trump decreed temporary Muslim Ban from seven countries on Friday outraged the Architectural community. Would-be immigrants struggle with time, money, and dreams goes down to waste with the President's stroke of a pen.
Milad Zabeti, an Iranian architect lived the American dream when he moved to the US in 2014. Upon the announcement from White House of the recent Executive Order, Zabeti expressed, "You invest something, your life, energy, and ideas-everything. And then one sudden decision changes things. These are analogous sentimentalities from those affected by this new policy formulated "to protect the best interest of the US."
In a press release from Washington State University, it states that their mission is firm unflinchingly to their commitment to all individuals regardless of orientation, ethnicity, and religion. The University will provide a safe space and working environment for those entering and returning to the US.
Cooper Union's Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture Dean-Nader Tehrani viewed that the new rules' implication is not clear for those affected nationals who are in the US. At some point, students and professionals from countries affected by the Executive Order who are in the US will have disconcerting repercussion as they will not be able to go out the US to visit their families and perform official businesses.
"My policy is similar to what President Obama did in 2011 when he banned visas for refugees from Iraq for six months. The seven countries named in the Executive Order are the same countries previously identified by the Obama administration as sources of terror," said Donald Trump in his official press release. He added, this policy does not target a specific group like Muslims, as falsely reported by the media, but rather a step to protect America from threats of terrorism.
The unswerving actions that President Donald Trump made should go deep examination to address several cases. This Executive Order implementing temporary Muslim Ban largely affected several industries, professionals, and the academe especially the architectural community.
