The School of Architecture in the University of Texas at Austin has a new dean who is both an architect and an engineer. The newly appointed dean also enjoyed a fortunate career at several sectors and institutions like Harvard University and the Yale School of Architecture. The Executive Vice President of the university recognized the new dean as an intellectual visionary whose leadership and contribution will be a huge benefit to the university and to the School of Architecture especially its students.
It has been revealed that Michelle Addington will be holding the Henry M. Rockwell Chair in Architecture from July 1. The next dean of the School of Architecture previously served as the Hines Professor of Sustainable Architectural Design from the Yale School of Architecture since 2010. Additionally, Addington holds a joint appointment with the School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, The University of Texas revealed.
Students at the School of Architecture should also note that Addington also taught at the Harvard University and worked at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center as an engineer and manager with DuPont. Addington studied her undergraduate degrees in Tulane University and Temple University and her master's and doctorate degrees from the Harvard Graduate School of Design.
It is said that the focus of her teaching is on sustainable energy systems, new technologies and advanced materials. Addington was also recognized by the "Architect Magazine" as one of the top 10 architecture faculty members in the nation.
Meanwhile, the Free School of Architecture is set to introduce a standby application process for its inaugural class from March 1 and will be due on March 30. The FSA expects to sit up to 36 students in June and July 2017. Furthermore, up to 12 new spots at the school is set to open if the Free School of Architecture confirms a larger venue for classes.
The Free School of Architecture stand-by applicants are expected to meet the same minimum requirements as the original pool of applicants, Archinect revealed. In addition, the FSA will also post the full first year coursework online in the fall of 2017. Moreover, live broadcast of select classes are also expected in June and July.
