Morocco's $20 Million Grand Casablanca Stadium Design Contract Awarded to Architect Tarik Oualalou

In a triumph for Moroccan architecture, Tarik Oualalou's consortium has secured the coveted contract to design the future Grand Casablanca Stadium. The selection process was rigorous, with authorities meticulously evaluating technical and administrative files. Out of twelve contenders, Oualalou's team emerged victorious, presenting a winning proposal with a fee rate of 5.70%, amounting to an estimated cost of services of approximately MAD 199 million (nearly $20 million).

Impressive Consortium Lineup

Oualalou's consortium boasts an impressive lineup, with Populous Ltd, a renowned British agency celebrated for its stadium projects worldwide, and ME Engineers Ltd, a global leader in sports design and lighting, joining forces. Additionally, Australia's Rider Levett Bucknall and Italy's Maffeis Engineering SPA bring their expertise from notable projects such as the Lusail Sports Arena, Khalifa Stadium in the UAE, Stade de la Meinau in France, and Heathrow International Airport in London.

Future of Grand Casablanca Stadium

The future Grand Casablanca Stadium is poised to meet FIFA's stringent 2030 criteria, ensuring it aligns with contemporary international football standards. With a planned seating capacity of 115,000, the stadium aims to cater to a diverse array of mass sports and cultural events. Strategically located near Benslimane Airport, approximately 38 kilometers from Casablanca and 18 kilometers from Mohammedia, in the commune of Mansouria, the stadium promises to become a landmark in the region.

Signed on October 20, 2018, the Grand Stade de Casablanca development deal signals a significant investment, with an estimated budget of MAD 5 billion ($500 million). The project has a dedicated site of 100 hectares, which covers not only the stadium presenting adjoining infrastructure but also ancillary services. Additionally, the features of the vacant land may be such that even in the future it could accommodate whatever expansion or redevelopment that would be necessary to serve you better.

Design and Facilities

The city proposed the stadium in terms of design, which principally provided all facilities needed, had the FIFA approved grass pitch, covered the stands of 115 thousand spectators and featured world-class facilities for athletes, officials, judges, and organizers. In addition, add-on facilities like the dressing rooms, and media rooms play a huge role in the development of the venue as the other services are indeed important.

Additional Amenities and Features

Besides the facility itself, the project comprises of many other amenities, they are the public assembly halls, ticketing, and accreditation centers, broadcasting halls, and volunteer centers. Sophisticated football center has been extended with four FIFA-certified training banks and the adjoining parking which make the facility even more convenient and appropriately equipped.
