Don't expect to see a premium smartphone when the Galaxy Alpha is unveiled, GSMArena reports.
The device will not be coming with high-end hardware, as a Samsung developer console has reportedly confirmed it will only feature a 720p display - disappointing news for Sammy fans hoping for a top of the line iPhone 6 competitor. The display actually would be on-par with the one packed into the Galaxy S III.
Unlike the LTE-A model consumers may have hoped it would emulate, the Alpha reportedly packs a 720p screen, a fingerprint scanner, 32GB of storage (non-removable) and either an Exynos 5 Octa or a Snapdragon 800 processor. These specs, of course, are not flagship quality, to say the least:
"The Galaxy Alpha will be a step above the Galaxy S5 mini and will actually be sold as another watered-down variant of the Galaxy S5," SamMobile writes.
The Alpha will reportedly, however, arrive with the metallic design some have been pining for.
SamMobile also added that the device is packing a 4.8-inch display, and not a 4.7-inch as previously rumored.
Meanwhile, GForGames reports that the device may only be available in limited quantity at its launch.
The publication claims that with Apple controlling most metal case manufacturers in Taiwan and a lack of the manufacturers located in Samsung's home turf of Korea, the company has been forced to look to China for the device's launch - a task the manufacturers in the country will not be able to handle in time for the rumored Aug. 13 release date.
Although previous rumors suggested the device would be a legitimate competitor to the iPhone 6, which is expected to debut this fall in 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch options, it appears Samsung will stick with the Galaxy S5 as its iPhone challenger for the time being. It is unknown whether the Korean tech giant is still working on a flagship smartphone with a premium, metallic body.
