Nexus 6 Scores High On Geekbench vs. iPhone 6, LG G3, Galaxy S5

The Motorola Nexus 6 could debut very soon, if the latest reports hold true, and when it does, consumers will apparently be very pleased, according to Phone Arena.

The purported upcoming "Shamu" phablet has surfaced again via Geekbench, suggesting the device's performance will be among the best on the market. In comparison to the competition, the new Nexus was only outscored by Apple's new iPhone 6 and the 5S, edging out battles vs. the LG G3, Samsung Galaxy S5, Nexus 5, Galaxy Note 3 and HTC One M8 in single-core. The Nexus 6's multi-core results, meanwhile, bested all of its competitors.

The smartphone could hit several U.S. carriers for release in addition to the Google Play Store, a new report alleges.

Although Verizon has not sold any of the most recent Nexus smartphones (the carrier has only sold the 2011 Galaxy Nexus), the carrier will allegedly help launch the new 6-inch phablet later this year, according to PocketNow. Although the report does not tip a specific U.S. release date for the device, Android Authority recently reported that it will be unveiled in a few weeks alongside a new Nexus tablet designed by HTC and Android L.

The publication's sources familiar with Google's plans tip two dates: Oct. 15 and Oct. 16 for the unveilings, but that the Android L update will not be released until Nov. 1.

Phone Arena previously tipped the smartphone for a Halloween release date with a price tag of up to $499.99 in the US and €419.99 in Europe.

As the website notes, Google senior vice president Sundar Pichai stated at MWC that the smartphone's release date time frame was limited to the second half of 2014.

Last week, Android Police offered up a mockup for the device along with all of its key specs, once again showing off a smartphone that looks a lot like a larger version of the Moto X.

"Based on new information, I've put together this image that depicts - as faithfully as possible - what the Nexus 6 will look like," the mockup's author, Liam Spradin, wrote.

As you can see via AP, the phablet packs dual front speakers, along with redesigned app icons. The website adds that the device's edges "will have the same aluminium frame as the new Moto X."

Similarly to previous leaks, the leak tips the Nexus 6 for a 5.9-inch QHD 496ppi display, a 13MP rear-facing camera with OIS, a 2MP front-facing camera and a 3200mAh+ battery.
