iPhone 6 A Ticket To Hookups For Single Guys, Study Suggests

If you're a single guy looking for a good time, it's likely you've purchased the iPhone 6, a new study suggests.

Researchers at the University of Wuerzburg in Germany found that a study of 352 men and women between the ages of 16 and 34 showed that men who are single and looking for a hookup might purchase the new Apple smartphone, or another high-end phone, in an effort to show off their ability to be a sufficient provider.

The research also showed that males looking for committed, long-term relationships are more likely to buy an inexpensive, or low-status, smartphone.

"This behavior might signal his intention to save resources in the long-term, which, in turn, makes him pretty attractive for women according to evolutionary theories of parental investment and sexual selection," Christine Hennighausen, one of the study's authors, told The Huffington Post.

There was no correlation between smartphone purchases and relationship potential with women, however, according to researchers, which they said may be because "women primarily display conspicuous consumption amidst same-sex competition."

It should, of course, also be noted that just because your boyfriend went out and bought the iPhone 6 doesn't mean he's definitely looking to fool around. Researchers said the link should be viewed as "more of a puzzle piece" than the proof of a non-commital male.

The study was published in the latest issue of "Letters on Evolutionary Behavioral Science."

The launch of the iPhone 6 is expected to spur "the mother of all upgrades" for the Cupertino-based tech giant. In anticipation, Apple reportedly ordered 80 million combined 6 and 6 Plus units by the end of the year.

Both new iPhones pack better battery life, an Apple A8 64-bit chip that allows for 25 percent faster CPU and 50 percent faster GPU performances, new camera features including Optical Image Stabilization and Apple Pay, the mobile payment system that will allow users to pay for products with their iPhone.
