Facebook and Apple to Providing Original Video Content Just Like Netflix And YouTube

Facebook and Apple is aiming to provide original video content just like Netflix and YouTube. Although no exact launch date has been released, both companies are serious with their plans and has already started with their plans.

CEO of Apple, Tim Cook, said they have already started with their plan through Apple Music which already provides original music content. And from there, the company has moved to Apple TV which gives Apple consumers easy access to Hulu, ESPN, and even Netflix. Now the company doesn’t just want to connect their consumers to these apps but to provide the original content just like Netflix.

And Apple is not the only company considering to do this, Facebook is also joining the trend. According to reports, Facebook plans to provide content that can be enjoyed not just through a mobile phone but in bigger screens like set-top boxes like Apple TV. In 2016, Facebook already has 100 million of hours watched each day by their consumers and generates $3.8 billion of revenue from video advertising alone.

Facebook has been planning to create an app connected to TV for some years now but it is only in 2017 that the company has made it one of their top priority. This includes making deals with media companies to acquire new and original programming. They plan to focus on advertising and finding new methods how to bring traditional marketing for TV and adapt to their platform.

Both companies has invested significantly with their plans, particularly for Apple that aims to provide high-end original video content like Westworld and Stranger Things. Having programs like this encourages consumers to purchase not just their device but also subscribe to their digital service. As for Facebook, the company has already updated their algorithm so producers can provide longer videos. With longer videos, the company can bring in more advertising.
