Museum of Arts and Design Celebrates two Milestones with Re: Collection

New York's Museum of Arts and Design is set to hold an event entitled Re:Collection. The exhibit will feature more than 70 works from diverse media including furniture, textiles, ceramics, sculpture and jewelry among others. This is to celebrate MAD’s fifth anniversary in their Columbus Circle location. Aside from that, the institution is also giving recognition to David McFadden’s 16 years as the Chief Curator Emeritus to the museum.

Glenn Adamson said “David’s curatorial vision has not only been defining for MAD over the last 16 years but also groundbreaking in establishing process and materials as wellsprings for creativity across the arts.” McFadden was able to curate more than 3000 objects from the initial 800 during his entire tenure.

Re:Collection will display some of the most iconic acquisitions as well as highlight MAD’s diverse collection in terms of materiality and techniques. According to MAD’s Director Nanette L. Laitman, the event will highlight McFadden’s positive influence on MAD’s acquisition and collection. It will also be a great venue for the public to explore the chief curator’s vision.

McFadden said, “Today, the MAD collection is international in scope and significance.” He also hopes that “this selection of works acquired from 1997 to today will engage people on many levels, revealing how and of what they were made, why there were made and who was the individual who created them.” McFadden also shared that the works are all personally meaningful to him. Some of the featured individuals in the exhibit includes Vika Mitrichenka (Teaset “Victoria” No. 12), Teresa Agnew (Portrait of a Textile Worker), and Jennifer Trask (Intrinsecus).

Re:Collection will be open for public viewing until September 7, 2014.
