Samsung Galaxy Alpha Launch Date Set For Wednesday? Rumors Suggest Device Could Debut Ahead Of Earlier Alleged Release

The Samsung Galaxy Alpha may be here before the week's end, according to new Korean media reports that cite details from Samsung, CNET reports.

The device will allegedly launch this Wednesday (Aug. 13), which the website notes would mean it would release earlier than previous reports suggested.

German website Allaboutsamsung reports that the upcoming device will arrive packing an Octa-Core Exynos 5433 SoC with a Mali-T628 GPU.

Along with the specs details, the report also included an alleged image of the device and screenshots of Galaxy Alpha AnTuTu benchmarks.

If the screenshots are correct, the Alpha will come with the model number SM-G850F and will only include support for a single SIM with no storage expandability via a microSD card. Additional specs include a 4.8-inch display with 720x1280 pixel display resolution (320ppi), a 12-megapixel rear camera, 2.1-megapixel front camera and Android 4.4.4 KitKat.

These alleged specs, of course, suggest device will not be coming with high-end hardware - disappointing news for Sammy fans hoping for a top of the line iPhone 6 competitor. The display actually would be on-par with the one packed into the Galaxy S III. The Alpha will reportedly, however, arrive with the metallic design some have been pining for.

The report also tipped Aug. 13 for the device's release.

Samsung is readying a non-plastic phone following a 24 percent year-over-year drop in Q2 profits, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Kim Hyun-joon, senior vice president of Samsung Mobile, recently told analysts and investors that a large-screened phone would be arriving in the coming months, along with another phone made "of new materials," WSJ reports. The "large-screened" device is believed to be the Galaxy Note 4, which has been tipped for a Sept. 3 launch, while the second phone could very well be the Galaxy Alpha.
