Oheka Castle, Featured in Taylor Swift’s ‘Blank Space’ Video, Sells for $72 Million

One of the most recognizable architectural settings in Taylor Swift's music video catalog has officially changed hands. Oheka Castle, the grand Long Island estate featured in her 2014 "Blank Space" music video, sold for $72 million at auction on October 27, 2026.
The historic property attracted considerable attention during the sale, drawing more than 740 prospective buyers from around the world. Seven bidders ultimately competed during the live auction, which took place at The Dominick hotel in New York City.
The sale marks a significant development for one of America's most recognizable private estates, which has become associated with both architectural history and popular culture.
Inside the Historic Oheka Castle
Located in Huntington, New York, on Long Island's Gold Coast, Oheka Castle is a sprawling estate covering approximately 23 acres. The property measures around 112,895 square feet and contains 127 rooms, making it one of the largest private residences in the United States.
The mansion was commissioned by financier and philanthropist Otto Hermann Kahn, whose initials inspired the name Oheka. Construction began in 1914 and was completed in 1919, with the estate designed by architectural firm Delano & Aldrich.
Its French Renaissance-inspired architecture reflects the grandeur of the early 20th century. The expansive property features elaborate interiors, formal gardens, terraces, and impressive architectural details that evoke the atmosphere of a European château.
Among its most notable features are its grand staircase, ballroom, and individually designed guest suites. The estate also includes hospitality facilities, including a hotel and restaurant, which have helped establish it as a destination for weddings and special events.
How 'Blank Space' Made the Castle Famous to a New Generation
Although Oheka Castle had already established a reputation as a prestigious estate long before its appearance in popular culture, Taylor Swift's "Blank Space" music video introduced the property to a much wider audience.
Released in 2014 as part of her 1989 album era, the video featured Swift in a lavish mansion setting, surrounded by elaborate interiors, manicured grounds, and extravagant architecture.
The castle's opulent atmosphere complemented the video's satirical portrayal of a glamorous and increasingly chaotic romantic relationship. Its grand interiors and picturesque exterior became an important part of the production's visual identity.
The estate has also appeared in other entertainment productions, including Citizen Kane, Gossip Girl, Succession, The Americans, and The Diplomat.
Its connection to film, television, and music has helped preserve its place in the public imagination, making it more than simply another luxury property.

A $72 Million Sale Following Financial Difficulties
The auction came after a difficult financial period for the estate's former owner, Gary Melius, who filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in August 2025.
The proceedings brought renewed attention to the property's financial circumstances and its future. Despite its architectural significance and commercial appeal, maintaining an estate of this size requires substantial financial resources.
According to reporting by ELLE Decor, an appraisal in the bankruptcy proceedings valued the property at approximately $137 million. Its eventual auction price of $72 million therefore represented a considerably lower figure than that valuation.
The successful bidders were identified as Ronald Browning and Paul Alflen, partners at Gold Coast Property & Estate Management.
The auction was conducted by Concierge Auctions, with Adam D. Modlin of The Modlin Group involved in the transaction.
What Happens to Oheka Castle Next?
The sale raises questions about how the historic property will be managed and preserved under its new ownership.
However, the buyers have indicated an intention to maintain the castle's historic character. In comments reported by ELLE Decor, the new owners expressed their commitment to preserving the estate rather than fundamentally changing its architectural identity.
The property also has an existing development approval connected to a proposal for 95 luxury condominium units. That authorization was reportedly retained as part of the transaction, although its eventual use remains a separate consideration from the preservation of the main estate.
For now, the castle's architectural legacy remains a central part of its appeal.
A Historic Estate With an Enduring Place in Popular Culture
Oheka Castle's $72 million sale represents the intersection of historic preservation, luxury real estate, and entertainment history. Its connection to Taylor Swift's "Blank Space" video has given the estate a recognizable place among contemporary audiences, while its architecture continues to reflect the extravagance of the early 20th century.
As the property enters a new chapter under its buyers, its future will be closely associated with the challenge of maintaining an important historic landmark while managing the demands of a modern luxury estate.
