Santiago Calatrava Unveiled $1.25 billion Mega-Project in London

A mega project worth $1.25 billion in the East London Greenwich Peninsula was unveiled by Architect Santiago Calatrava. This will be a one of a kind edifice that will rise which is a first-step broader edge to convert the area to an advance contemporary style.

The billionaire Entrepreneur Henry Cheng from Hong Kong owns Knight Dragon, the development company that hired Calatrava, New York Times reported. This three-tower complex that covers 1.4-million-square-foot will include a Winter Garden public passageway, an immense footbridge, and arcade - the first London complex project of the Spanish architect. There will also be offices, restaurants, apartments, a hotel, and shops in this Greenwich Complex.

In a broader idea, this is also part of London's urban transformation worth $105.2 that is a budget for schools, public places, new homes, film studio, and eventually the inkling in making this a design district of the city.

Facts and functions for the Greenwich Complex are illustrated in Architect Newspaper. It describes that the complex will have a 30-story floor with a 37- foot clearance and an 80-foot high canopy. Its galleria length measures 500-feet while the hotel will cover 340,000-Square-foot. Meanwhile, the retail and restaurant area will consist of 200,00-square-foot, leaving the residential area of around 400,000-square-foot.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan in a press statement, "I am delighted that Santiago Calatrava has chosen London for his first major project in the UK. This shows that London remains open to investment, trade and the very best talent from around the globe. This new landmark for London and the growth of this area of London will create a new cultural district for Londoners and visitors from around the world."

"I am also pleased to welcome Knight Dragon's continued investment in Greenwich Peninsula, providing much-needed infrastructure, shops, offices, and new genuinely affordable homes for Londoners," Mayor Khan added. According to the reports his office gathered, there are several investors eyeing to take part in this major project partnered both Knight Dragon and London.

Architect Calatrava is one of the architects who work on New York World Trade Center projects and also made successful projects in different countries in major cities like Portugal, Spain, France, and Germany. The $1.25 billion project in London marks a significant value for Calatrava's works.
